Viewing Frameworks
Framework can be used to help students discuss and analyze all the elements of a
film text.

What are the 3Ss?

Story
Story or Storyline of a film is what the movie is all about.

 What is the story all about?


 What happen in the beginning, middle, and at the end of a story?
 What are the most important things (events) that happen in the story?
 How would you like the story to continue?
Setting
Setting is the context in which a story or scene occurs and includes the time, place,
and social environment.
 Where does the action take place?
 When does the action take place?
 How does the setting affect the character?
 What clues might there be to tell us whether the story is set now or in the
past?
Sound
Sound is important in a film. Its emphasis what is on the screen and is used to
indicate mood.
 How many different sounds do you here? What are they?
 How does the music make you feel?
 Can you here any sound effects?
 If you listen to the sound without the pictures, can you tell me what is
happening on the screen?
