a ‘TO THE NEW OWNERS OF CHAMP: If you have chosen CHAMP, you are a very fortunate individual or family. I have been forced to surrender him due to a serious health situation, so let me introduce this great dog to you ~ to help everyone adjust. CHAMP is a “mellow fellow”. He seldom barks or makes any noises, other than whimpering some if he wants to come inside. | adopted him in December, 2015 ~ and he was a little shy of men as we felt he had been abused. He does not like people to reach over his head to pet him, but rather to let him smell you and lick your hands. He is a GREAT comfort/companion dog (but he is not a rescue dog). He likes to “be with you" ~ laying quietly in the room where you are working or watching TV. He will lay quietly Until around 10:00 P.M. -where, with a pat to your leg, he will goto his crate. He crates very easily and remains in the crate until early morning (whatever your morning hours are ~ mine are around 8 A.M.) Then he lavishly laps up water and goes out to do his business. hope you have a fenced back yard — he is very good at staying outdoors except in extreme stormy weather; then ~like us— he is a wimp. FOOD: Always good to know. CHAMP eats once a day — around 6:00-6:30 P.M. His normal diet has been Kibbles N Bits (1-1/2 cups}, topped with either a sprinkling of canned peas and carrots or a handful of shredded cheese. ‘Then he goes out for his “constitutional” before coming in for the rest of the evening. He also likes to lap up the left over milk from the bottom of a cereal bow! ~ AND, he loves to lick the remains of flavored yogurt cartons. ‘That's how he keeps his trim self, He has NEVER messed in the house — he is house broken. Sometimes, after his dinner meal and his “constitutional”, if itis a really lovely night, he “chooses” to stay out all night and enjoy ~ but he doesnt bark and upset the neighbors. EXERCISE: CHAMP is not a rambunctious dog, but he loves to go on long walks and walks well on a leash. He has never been permitted to run free except in the back yard or in an uncrowded dog park. He will rush other dogs and likes to establish that he is an “alpha male” ~ then he ignores them after his demonstration. He has a halter ‘and | have run the leash through the handle on this, together with attaching the leash to his choke chain. HARNESS: | purchased his harness on line from “True Harness”, which imprinted his name with my phone number on the Velcro strips. | believe you can order new strips with your personal phone number if the event he should become lost. COMMANDS: I have tried to teach commands, and one he ignores — with me ~is the “COME” COMMAND. He Jooks at me like “Who, Me?", and pretty well ignores me. In the house, all | have to do is pat may leg and point where I want him to go, and he abeys. Possibly, with a lot more diligence, you can overcome this failing on my part, which will make it easier to let him run a little more freely. VACATION CARE: Whenever | have needed to board CHAMP - for medical, vacation or other personal care —he hhas stayed at “Home Away from Home”, 7810 Mainland Drive (78250) ~ (210) $09-16636. The manager, Michael, and the staff are very caring of him. The only problem they incur is when he is scheduled to have his nails trimmed (bath and nails monthly if | could manage it). | give him some tranquilizers to help both him and the staff, and this is when he is muzzled for safety purposes. PEOPLE: CHAMP has NEVER been exposed to infants or young children ~and he does not act comfortably around them (growling and lunging). He loves teens on up — young adults, Senior citizens. Exposure to different situations will help CHAMP ~ he is a very intelligent animal. CAR RIDES: CHAMP loves to ride in a car with the back windows down half-way. He does not stick his head out the window, and he has NEVER ridden in the back end of a truck. This might be something he will have to learn to adjust to. HEALTH: CHAMP is neutered, and healthy. All his shots are current and he has never been to the Vet for any unusual health problems. At the first of each month | give him a heartworm pill and use the flea/tick solution to help control any problem. PETTING/LOVING: CHAMP loves to be scratched between his ears, and then he rolls his face/muzzle around and loves to be scratched beneath his chin. His eyes get dreamy and he’s a happy fellow! RECAP: CHAMP is a good dog who will ove you unconditionally. Itis with great reluctance that | have been put ina position to surrender him. 1 have loved him unconditionally, and I hope you wil also, Thank you for giving him a new homelltl AVERY GRATEFUL DONORI!!
