Río de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, the second largest in Brazil, is famous for its miles of
stunning beaches, its rich musical culture, and its beautiful people.
Experience it all at once by simply people-watching on one of the beaches,
which cariocas (inhabitants of Rio) consider to be their backyard. On the
legendary beach of Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon, you will find residents
and visitors socializing, relaxing, eating, drinking, dancing and playing.
Outside the sand, you can admire the best of Rio.

A cogwheel train ride up Corcovado to the famous art-deco statue of Christ

the Redeemer or its twin peak, Sugar Loaf Mountain, rewards stunning
views of the urban sprawl, fringed by white-sand beaches and sparkling
Guanabara Bay. That same bay can be cruised for a different but equally
epic perspective on the city, then tuck into a Brazilian-style barbecue at a
churrascaria.

In the afternoons a samba show in Lapa is a tradition, in the mornings walk

through the tropical forest of Tijuca or the botanical garden of Rio de
Janeiro. Walking tours wind through the streets of historic and bohemian
Santa Teresa, or head up into the hills to see life in the favelas of Santa
Marta or Rocinha. And for those who like sports, behind-the-scenes tours of
the Maracanã Stadium showcase the country's national obsession: futebol
(soccer).
