ORTHOGRAPHIC AND ISOMETRIC

ISOMETRIC DRAWING
The isometric Snap/Grid mode helps you create 2D drawings that represent 3D objects. Isometric
drawings are drawn using isosnap and isocircle not true 3D drawings because they cannot be viewed in
perspective or from another angle.

When creating an isometric drawing, you will set first the value for SNAPSTYL. SNAPSTYL sets the value
for the current viewport.
If SNAPSTYL = 0 , Standard (Rectangular Snap)
SNAPSYTL = 1, Isometric snap

Command: SNAPSTYL
Enter new value for SNAPSTYL<0>: 1

 You can cycle through the isometric planes by pressing CTRL + E OR F5

ISOPLANE LEFT – orients the snap along 90° and 150° axes

ISOPLANE TOP – orients the snap along 30° and 150° axes

ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION
Orthographic projection involves viewing an article being described in a technical drawing from
different directions – from the front, from a side, from above, from below or from any other viewing
position.

Orthographic projection often involves:

1. The drawing of details which are hidden, using hidden detail lines.
2. Sectional views in which the article being drawn is imagined as being cut through and
the cut surface drawn.
3. Centre lines through arcs, circles, spheres and cylindrical shapes.

EXAMPLE:

ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION
ISOMETRIC DRAWING
EXERCISE:
1. Construct the orthographic projection given

2. Given the dimension in exercise no.1 construct and isometric drawing of the angle plate
