A popular quote by one of the world’s best psychologists Philip Zimbardo says that “one

can't live mindfully without being enmeshed in psychological processes that are around us”. This
statement is an embellishment of truism. Social psychology in clear terms is a discipline that
applies scientific methods to understand and explain how the thoughts, feelings, and behavior of
individuals are influenced by the actual human beings around them.
The importance of social psychology is shown in all the interactive aspects of the
individual's social life and all the environments in which he coexists, which can affect the
individual's interactions and personality.
Many of the primary modern applications for social psychology revolve around
protecting people from emotional and physical harm while providing them with the necessary
mental bandwidth to handle the psychological perils they may face daily.
My strong interest in the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is born
out of my love for her mission of producing and transmitting knowledge based on humanistic
values and Christian ethics. A school with such a sound philosophy produces leaders who
possess both character and learning. Hence, my strong interest in considering PUC-Rio as my
favorite choice for a Master's Degree in Social Psychology.
I also consider the Master's degree program in social psychology at Pontifical Catholic
University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil an absolute option to acquire the relevant knowledge needed
to make a giant stride in my academic endeavors. The university adopts recent module courses
that address the needs of the modern world. Topics ranging from personality, psychometrics, love
relationships, attitudes, prejudice, social identity, social inequality, social movements, human
rights, and educational practices are given careful attention by her faculty members of staff. An
in-depth study into the profile and works of one of her distinguished professors in the person of
Leonardo Fernandes Martins leaves me without an atom of doubt that PUC-Rio is the right place
for everyone to be grounded in psychosocial phenomena from different theoretical views.

I strongly believe that my training at PUC-Rio will prepare me to become a distinguished

leader who seeks the truth and acts following the needs of society and in the ever-changing
world. This I am sure to achieve because these beliefs are enshrined in the core philosophies of
this landmark university to raise leaders with humanistic values.

Upon successful completion of my study at PUC-Rio, I promise to be a good ambassador

of this world-class university, to uphold her honor as an institution with the interest of seeking
the truth and acting following the needs of society and with the ever-changing world.
