1. Explain why literature is useful in our lives.

Answer: Literature is useful in everyday life because it connects individuals with larger truths
and ideas in a society. Literature creates a way for people to record their thoughts and
experiences in a way that is accessible to others, through fictionalized accounts of the
experience.
2. How can literature deeper our sense of history?
Answer: Literature allows a person to step back in time and learn about life on Earth from the
ones who walked before us. We can gather a better understanding of culture and have a greater
appreciation of them. We learn through the ways history is recorded, in the forms of
manuscripts and through speech itself.
3. How can literature develop one’s critical thinking?
Answer: Critical thinking skills require always asking the question “Why?” In studying literature,
one should always be asking “why?” about every choice the text makes, even the smallest. Why
is this character wearing a red dress? What could it signify about her character? What could that
have to do with whether we believe what she says? All of this questions makes us develop our
critical thinking.
