The recording and the text were about the decision has been given at the International
Astronomical Union about Pluto’s demotion to a dwarf.

First of all, there were lots of objects in the sky just like Pluto, on the aspect of size.
After that discovery, science questioned Pluto’s status because there were no unique
characteristics of Pluto’s. For example, Eris was known as a dwarf at that time and even
it was slightly larger than Pluto. So, scientific observations and questionings were a
reason for the reconsideration of Pluto’s status.

On the other hand, the method of the vote was a reason itself too. Scientists say that
Pluto would be accepted as a planet if the voting was done via the internet. Because,
the attendees for the union have left the event only one day before the vote and they
couldn’t vote due to that. Numerically, less than 5.000 people were able to vote from
more than 10.000 attendees.

The third point was people’s reactions and how they react to the news. The example
given in the recording was the “Pluto Day” on 13 th March in Mexico. Like all the scientific
facts, this one is not accepted by everyone too.
