6. Et kort er en tegning af et sted.

7. De fleste kort viser steder, som om du kigger ned fra et fly.

8. Et by- eller landsbykort har gader og bygninger.

9. Et landkort har stater, byer, søer og floder.

10. Et verdenskort viser have og lande.

11. Det kan vise lande i forskellige farver.

12. Nogle kort viser vejret på forskellige steder.

13. Dette kort viser, hvor solen står op.

14. Det viser også, hvor der falder regn eller sne.

15. DELE AF ET KORT

16. Lær først de fire retninger for at bruge et kort.

17. Nord er Nordpolens retning.

18. Syd er Sydpolens retning.

19. Øst er, hvor solen står op, og vest er, hvor solen går ned.

20. Kort kan have en pil og bogstavet 'N' for at vise, hvilken retning nord er.

21. De kan i stedet have en kompasrose med alle fire retninger.

22. Kort kan også have små tegninger, som kaldes symboler.

23. En lille cykel kan markere en cykelsti.

24. Byer og parker bruger et symbol for at hjælpe folk med at finde toiletter.

25. En målestok på et kort viser, hvor langt ting virkelig er fra hinanden.

3. How do people find their way around a new city?

4. How do people drive from one side of a country to the other?

5. They use a map!

6. A map is a drawing of a place.

7. Most maps show places as if you are looking down from an airplane.

8. A map of a city or town has streets and buildings.

9. A map of a country has states, cities, lakes, and rivers.

10. A map of the world shows oceans and land.

11. It may show countries in different colors.

12. Some maps show weather in different places.

13. This map shows where the sun is shining.

14. It also shows where rain or snow is falling

15. PARTS OF A MAP

16. To use a map, first learn the four directions.

17. North is the direction of the North Pole.

18. South is the direction of the South Pole.

19. East is where the sun rises, and West is where the sun sets.

20. Maps may have an arrow and the letter N to show which way is north.

21. They may instead have a compass rose with all four directions.

22. Maps may also have little drawings called symbols.

23. A little bike may mark a bike path.

24. Cities and parks use a symbol to help people find bathrooms.

25. A scale on a map shows how far apart things really are.

28. Pretend you live in the blue house.

29. Walk your fingers from your house to the library.

30. Now walk your fingers from the library to the post office.

31. Pretend you live in the orange house on this map.

32. Walk your fingers to the blue house.

33. Use words to tell someone how you got there.

34. MAKING MAPS

35. Make a map of your bedroom.

36. Start with some graph paper, or use a ruler to make your own.

37. Measure the room with your footsteps.

38. Each footstep equals one square on the graph paper.

39. Count your footsteps in both directions.

40. Then count the same number of squares on the paper.

41. Draw the shape of the room.

42. Now count the number of footsteps to different things in the room.

43. Draw those things on your map.

44. Add more things to your map.

45. Count your footsteps to doors and windows, too.

46. Then color your map to look like the room.

47. You just made a map!
