Abstract Self-Portrait

Due Thursday September 29th

Objectives:
-Use value to create form
-Be intentional about your composition
-Draw what you see!

Instructions:
You are going to create an abstract self-portrait. Your features will be drawn in pencil,
but how you arrange them and if/how if you want to add color to the features or the
background is entirely up to you. The composition should be meaningful.

Steps:
1.) Practice! Follow along with 2 out of the 4 videos and the demonstration by Mrs.
Worthy
2.) Compose! Are you going to draw all your features on one piece of paper and add
in a background later? Draw your features on watercolor paper, do a paint wash,
and then glue them on top of the faces of BTS?
a.) Draw thumbnails in your journal and show me
3.) Draw parts of your face! You need to draw your eye, nose, mouth, and ear life
size. You can draw more if you want- no limit- like 20 eyes is fine. You need to
draw at least two features from looking in a mirror. You are allowed to use a
photo or your phone for the rest if you prefer. (Want one printed out? Let me
know I can help!)
4.) Finish your composition- add in color, rearrange your features and glue them
down- whatever you first decided.

Specific Criteria:
Craftsmanship: Your composition is meaningful and intentional
Time and Effort: You are drawing exactly what you see when you draw your four
features.
Focus Art Element/Principle: Form- I expect you to use your value scales to create a 3D
form.
