that manage routine domestic tasks in residential spaces.
2) Robots have difficulty in two aspects of manipulating objects: control and
sensing.
3) Home robots must deal with many uncertainties in their workspaces. The
robot must first locate and identify the target item among many others. Quite
often it also requires clearing or avoiding other obstacles in the workspace to
be able to reach the item and perform given tasks. For example, users of
robot vacuums know they must remove all small furniture and other obstacles
such as cables from the floor, because even the best robot vacuum cannot
clear them by itself. Even more challenging, the robot has to operate in the
presence of moving obstacles when people and pets walk within close range.
4)
5) No, I don't believe robots will be widely used in the next decade. The first
reason is that a decade is too short for us to make robots more useful. Most of
the robots now can only follow simple commands, smart AI robots are not that
popular yet because it's very difficult to create one. Secondly, robots aren't
cheap. Because robots are very expensive, it will only be common for the
upper class not middle or lower ones. In conclusion, a decade is still too soon
for robots to become a common thing.
