Static Electricity

Every one of use has seen it or experienced it. We all know what it is.

William
He was researching about the magnetic fields of earth and planets, but somehow he shocked
himself with an amber.

Ottó
He tried things like we did on physics lesson. Attracting water or paper with amber(we did it
with a PVC pipe). Stated the basics of electricity(repel, attract).
First sulfur generator. Similar to the Van de Graaf generator which can create tens of kilovolts.

Charles
Two types: false. We call it positive and negative now, and we know the the electrons are
moving not some magic fluids
Neutral same, others have more of either the glass-e or amber-e.

Francis
Electroscope. Its way more efficient with aluminum foil, because its conductive.
Generator: He cranks the crank with one hand, while with the other he touches the ball with a
glove, and the glove gets charged.

Benjamin
Father of America. People didn’t really use metal wires, they used wet threads. He proved that
lightnings are the same as static electricity, they’re just really powerful. He used a kite to prove
it. He tied a key to the end of the kite thread then The lightning hit the kite, and the key
shocked him a little bit. People started to harvest electricity for cheap lighting instead of oil and
petroleum lamps.

Faraday
It was known that time, but he wrote down what current and voltage is. Faraday
cage(electricity only goes through the surface of a conductor). Eddy current. Invented the
capacitor, unit of capacitance.
Edison
Contemporary of tesla. Invented dc(they had been using it, but he made it a standard). He
invented electric chairs to prove ac is dangerous.

Tesla
Ac: mostly good for power transmission in long distances and it can be transformed with
transformers(also invented transformers).
Info transmission: Radio towers, mobile data etc.
