The popularity of Ragtime in its heyday, around the
turn of the 20th c. was enormous and in the 1970s the
style enjoyed a huge revival. To this day Ragtime appears
in all areas of America’s musical life from film scores to
concert programmes.
These collections of pieces employ some of the
stylistic mannerisms of Ragtime, namely its ‘on-beat’
style with syncopated melody but rhythmically
straightforward bass, without posing the technical
difficulties of the original ragtime composers.
