Clever Cat Preliminary books

The pupil/teacher ‘learning-through-duet’ albums Clever Cat and Clever Cat at the Seaside lead the absolute beginner towards ‘going
it alone’ with Clever Cat goes Solo and Clever Cat goes on Safari. Based on the simple idea of the pupil copying the teacher, these
duets will have young beginners happily playing with a real feeling of achievement right from their first lesson.
Virtually every note in the pupil’s part is first played by the teacher in a higher or lower octave, so encouraging correct fingering, phrasing,
dynamics and articulation. Each book comes with a CD for listening and participating. As well as providing play-along tracks for practice
between lessons, the CD contains enhanced performances of each duet bringing the style and atmosphere of each piece alive.

Clever Cat
The first in the series, pupil and teacher play simple duets in a variety
of styles including pieces such as Cat Nap, The Cat’s Pyjamas, Alley
Cat, Cool Cat, Five-finger Exercises, Feline Dreams, Caterwaulin’ and
more. Many of the pieces provide extra fun practice of basic skills such
as five-finger exercises, scales, broken chords and arpeggios. The CD
includes performances of each duet, for listening, and play-along tracks
for pupils to use at home.

Clever Cat at the Seaside

The second duet book leading on from book 1, with CD. The range of
keys is mostly restricted to C, F and G majors and relative minors which
will suit young players in their earliest years. The 15 descriptive and
contrasting duets make delightful performance pieces.

Rollin’ and a-Rockin’, Gliding, The

Clever Cat Solo Books UE 21484 (1)
Written with skill-building in mind, the main intention
is to provide inspiring pieces which explore a variety
of styles within a restricted range of keys and
technical demands. Again, fun illustrations of Clever
Cat and his new acquaintances will quickly remind
players of the mood of each piece

Clever Cat goes on Safari

Easy – middle-grade solo piano pieces
Moving on and a step higher in technical and interpretative skills from Clever Cat goes Solo, this
next adventure takes Clever Cat into the wilds of darkest Africa. Here he comes face to face with
some exotic and awe-inspiring wildlife including elephants, meerkats, crocodiles, and, of course,
his distant relative and king of cats – the mighty lion. Includes The Waltz of the Elephants, March
of the Meerkats, The Crocodile Bridge, King of Cats – the Mighty Lion, Dance of the Baboons,
Ostrich Outing, an added song version of The Blue Giraffe and more.

Mike Cornick's Jazz Piano Styles
America
The original pieces in this series serve as an
introduction to the popular musical styles that
have evolved in America from the latter part of the
19th and into the 20th century. Each album contains
historical notes and performing tips.

The popularity of Ragtime in its heyday, around the
turn of the 20th c. was enormous and in the 1970s the
style enjoyed a huge revival. To this day Ragtime appears
in all areas of America’s musical life from film scores to
concert programmes.
These collections of pieces employ some of the
stylistic mannerisms of Ragtime, namely its ‘on-beat’
style with syncopated melody but rhythmically
straightforward bass, without posing the technical
difficulties of the original ragtime composers.
