A FUNNY DAY

When Fernando the mouse poked his nose out of the mouse hole, he couldn 't
believe his eyes. Everywhere on the street, people were hurrying along. There was
nothing strange about that, but on this particular day they looked different somehow.
They were wearing bright clothing, hats, bonnets and umbrellas. Fernando looked
up at the cloudless sky. "But it really doesn't look like rain today," he thought in
surprise. More and more people streamed past. They stood on the pavements, opened
their umbrellas and waited. From the distance came the sound of music.
Trumpets and drums blared out through the streets, so loud that Fernando had
to put his paws over his ears. The people weren't bothered by the noise. They were
cheering, singing and dancing. And as the first sweeties landed in front of Fernando's
nose, he finally realised what day it was: the day of the carnival procession!
