I. MAKE CONNECTIONS

What do you do when you outgrow the things that you used to do and
like?

 Many have said, “If everything around you remains constant, it is a clear
sign that you're not growing”. As a human being we are all growing, day
by day I can observe that I am growing. And with that growth, I outgrow
on my own clothes, the food I eat and even certain behaviors. I know this
is normal, expected and makes complete sense. We all grow in different
ways, only thing I can do is to accept the reality and learn to practice new
things in life.

B. Grasp the poem’s full implications and suggestions to answer the following
questions.

1. In the first stanza, what are the things that the speaker used to do and love?
Why do you think she left them? Give words or lines to support your answer.
 In the first stanza, the things that the speaker used to do and love are
playing and enjoying childhood days. “I have outgrown them all, and one
by one” this line proves that she have to let go of habits that she loves to
do because she’s growing up and there’s a lot of changes to herself.

2. Did you love the same things the speaker did? Do you still love those things?
Why?
 Almost the same but I can’t say that I still love those things because I
didn’t enjoy my childhood days because of some health issues.
3. In the second stanza, what is the apprehension or fear of the speaker?
 In the second stanza, the apprehension or fear of the speaker is the
“changes”. As she grows up she’s afraid of letting go and forget the things
that she used to do.
4. What is the speaker’s “drink and bread”?
 The speaker’s drink and bread are those things that she needs to let go.

5. Why does the speaker treasure “change” so much? What does it mean to her?

 The speaker treasures “change” so much because one of the biggest things
happened to her that changed her life.
6. If the poem is a call for understanding, would you understand and forgive the
speaker when that "fatal day" happens?
 Yes, because the author talks about the time that as she’s growing she
have to let go of the things she loves to do and she’s afraid that one day
those things will be forgotten.
V. THINK AND REFLECT
1. Are women really fickle? What about men? Can they be fickle, too?
 Yes, women are fickle and sometimes men could be fickle too. However
many have said that women are more fickle than men because girls are
sometimes have their changeable and uncertain decisions. One of the
factors that affect their decisions is emotion.
2. When do you feel most ‘grown up’ and able to handle anything? When do you
feel ‘young’ and unsure of yourself?
 As a teenager I can’t completely say that I fully grew up but growing up
instead. Though there are times that I can manage anything well but not
all the time. Even until now, I can still feel young and unsure to myself
because of my unwise and instant decision that sometimes affects me.
3. How does change impact your emotion? Is it easy or difficult to accept? Does
it hurt? Does it make you happy, angry, or confused? Explain your answer.
 We always hear this cliché line from other people that “There is nothing
constant in this world but change” that also made me realize that
everything is just temporary. For some it is easy for them, but for it’s
really hard to think and accept. Though this can gives us grief but we must
accept the fact and learn to let go and be open for new learning.
4. What’s one change you would make that would give you more freedom and
inner peace?
 For me the one change that could give me freedom and inner peace is that
being true to myself. I always believe that being genuine and authentic to
myself could set me free. It opens doors of opportunities for me and this
could help me in cultivating myself and discover my strengths and
weaknesses.
