This document explains how to download the old patches for Welcome to the Game II (WTTG
II) for Steam. We have separated the document in a couple of sections:
– Section 1 on page 1 will explain how Windows users can download the old patches;
– Section 2 on page 3 will explain why the standard method is no longer available.
Note that this guide applies to any Steam App available.
1 How to Download on Windows

1.1 Getting the Game ID, Depot ID and Manifest ID
In order to download the patches, we will need to get the Steam Game ID, Depot ID and the Manifest
ID. All of those can be acquired from SteamDB.
Searching for WTTG II on SteamDB will lead you to this App page. We can find the Game/App ID
we need for the download later on in the table at the top of the page: 720250.
Clicking on Depots in the sidebar will show a table of the WTTG II depots. As of the writing of this
guide, it looks like this:

Since we are on Windows, we can click on 720251 which is the Depot ID we need. This leads us to
the Game Depot page which lists all of the game files. In the sidebar, we can go to Manifests. This
redirects us to the Game Manifests page. As of the writing of this guide, the table looks like this:

1.2 Download the Manifest
Now that we have the Game ID, Depot ID and the Manifest ID, we are ready to download the
Manifest. For that we will use the SteamRE/DepotDownloader available open source from GitHub.
Download the latest release here.
Extract the ZIP archive in a folder and copy its directory by clicking on the top bar that shows the
current explorer location. For me, it is E:\03_games\steam\depotdownloader.
Open the CMD by searching for it using Windows Search and run the following commands. The text
in red should be changed to what corresponds to you.

Follow the instructions given by the tool it will download the manifest to a depots folder where you
extracted the tool. You can run the game straight off of this folder, or copy the contents to another
location because they will be overwritten each time you download a new manifest.
2 What happened?
In an update of Steam’s client libraries which took effect in the month of January 2020, Valve has
decided to cunningly disallow downloads of old manifest from their game depots. While the data is
still available on their server, they implemented a client check to prevent users from accessing the
data.
This means any tool that uses the Steam client library from Valve – which includes the Steam Console,
SteamCMD, etc. – can be ruled out.
There are thus two ways to access the data: either use Cheat Engine to change the Steam Client
library to bypass the verification which prevents old manifest download, or use another Steam library
made by the community.
This guide will use a community-made tool that automatically allows you to download any manifest
from any Steam depot.
