Which product should I download?
Which products do I need to download?
The software you have purchased may include several products, not all of which you need to install; this
document will help you determine which products you need. Keep in mind, not all products listed below will
necessarily be visible in your download page.
To understand which products are required, we advise that you consult with the person actually using the
product.

Visual COBOL for Visual Studio

This is the recommended product for development targeted to run on Windows and .NET platforms, and
provides a complete development experience using a modern IDE.
With the exception of .NET Core applications, this product is not the recommended choice for applications
deployed to non-Windows platforms.
This product requires you to purchase and install Microsoft Visual Studio separately - this is not supplied by
Micro Focus.

Visual COBOL for Eclipse

This is the recommended product for development targeted to run on Linux and UNIX platforms, and
provides a complete development experience using a modern IDE.
You can install this product directly on Windows or Linux systems.
You will require this product if you are using COBOL JVM on Windows, Linux or UNIX.
This product can be used in conjunction with the Development Hub product to enable developers to
connect to and work with COBOL projects on Linux and UNIX servers.

Development Hub
This is a development product for Linux and UNIX, that includes a compiler and character-mode debugger
only.
Visual COBOL for Eclipse can be used in conjunction with this product to offer a full IDE experience when
working with COBOL code that is contained on a separate Linux or UNIX server.
Development Hub is required if you wish to build your application on a UNIX system, or on a Linux system
on which you have not already installed Visual COBOL for Eclipse.

Build Tools
This product is a lightweight product for Windows, typically used in continuous integration scenarios. No
IDE or debugger is available in this product.

COBOL Server
This is the product you should install on your production, QA, or other non-development testing
environment in order to run COBOL applications you have created with the development products. It is also
known as the COBOL Run-time System. On Windows, COBOL Server cannot be installed on the same
computer on which the Visual COBOL development tools are installed.

Deployment Toolkit
This product includes the COBOL Server files for Windows. It enables you to package and embed COBOL
Server as part of your own application, for example, as an .msi. If you are not embedding COBOL Server
as part of your application's installer, you do not need to download these files.

Visual COBOL Database File Handler

Visual COBOL Database File Handler is an installation of the Micro Focus Database File Handler (or
MFDBFH for short) on COBOL Server.
MFDBFH is a file handler that enables your COBOL Server service-oriented applications to interact with
data files stored within a database.

Docker Support
This product enables you to create Docker images for Windows or Linux platforms, and includes both the
Build Tools and run-time products. If you are not using Docker, you do not need to download these files.

Reflection Desktop for X

Download this product if you are working within Linux or UNIX systems. This product provides two key
functions; it enables remote development between Eclipse and Development Hub when developing
interactive COBOL applications and secondly, it provides terminal emulation.
