The given line graph displays the rate of male and female smokers in Someland between the
years 1960 to 2000.
Overall, it is clear that the ratio of both genders changed relatively over 40 years. While male
smokers decreased considerably, the number of female smokers increased highly.
According to the graph, the ratio of male smokers was much higher than that of females in 1960.
600 men smoked at that time while the ratio of females was less than 100 per thousand. Although
the number of female smokers was always fewer, their proportion progressed significantly.
By the time, the number of male smokers had dropped constantly and the rate of female smokers
had continued to increase. In 2000, the proportion of both genders became almost the same,
which is 200 out of 1000. This shows that female smokers’ percentage doubled while that of
males declined three-fold in 40 years.
