Narrative Report on 2022 PIMSO National Roud

The organization of the Philippine International Math and Science Olympics (PIMSO)
holds a friendly competition annually to test the wits of young students all over the country. It is
divided into two subjects, namely, Mathematics and Science. The contest is open to
Elementary, Junior, and Senior High School students, and the participants are clustered based
on their grade level and are given different sets of questions.
The registration for the national round was announced on March 10, 2022, and it was
extended until June 04, 2022. The admission fee cost 1,300 pesos per participant and was paid
by the school. In order to sign up for the contest, the students filled up an online form to provide
their personal information, as well as evidence of payment. After joining, the form also provided
a reviewer for the student which is the test questionnaire from the previous year’s competition.
To prepare for the examination, the participants studied hard with the help of each other
and their coaches. There are four categories in total, specifically, Algebra, Combinatorics,
Geometry, and Number Theory. Those are the actual topics for the exam as well. Upon
registering, the participants also received an e-mail presenting the receipt and confirming their
registration. The organizers also provided the instructions for the contest, the username of the
student, and a mock quiz to familiarize the participants with utilizing the website to be used.
On the day of the examination, on June 12, the contest for the Mathematics category
was held. The participants first gathered at a Zoom meeting at 9:00 AM held by PIMSO for
attendance and reiteration of rules to be followed while taking the quiz. Before officially starting
the exam, the host provided the password that the students will enter on the website in order to
access the questions. After inputting all the needed information, the students started answering
and the exam ended before 12:00 noon.
