Calculation of Longitudinal Forces

Horizontal force at bearing level in the longitudinal direction at fixed bearing (other than elastomeric bearing)
i) Fh - μ (Rg +Rq) Refer Clause 211.5 IRC: 6-2010
= Maximum of
ii) Fh / 2 + μ (Rg + Rq)
Where
Fh = Applied Horizontal force
Rg = Reaction at free end due to dead load and SIDL
Rq = Reaction at free end due to live load load
μ = Coefficent of Friction at movable bearing = 0.03 or 0.05 which ever govern

* Fh (breaking force) is considered 20 % of the first train load + 10 % of the load of the succeeding trains or part
thereof.
