BasketBall 2013

Instructions:

1. A team should not consist of more than 10 players (5+5). Women players can
be part of the team though it’s not compulsory.
2. a) All the players should compulsorily wear proper sports attire (includes T-
shirts, gym shorts, Track pants and shoes)
b) Jeans and formal wear are not allowed.
3. Jewellery or sun glasses shall not be worn.
4. Headwear that contains knots, hard or stiff materials are prohibited.
5. For a game to start, a minimum of 3 players should be present on each side.
6. If a team doesn’t turn up as per the scheduled start time, then a walk over
would be awarded to the opposition team after waiting for 10 mins.
7. If the players from both the teams do no turn up after the waiting period of
10 mins, then both the teams would get eliminated.

Rules:

Includes the general rule followed for Basket Ball. A few important ones are as
follows:

1. No shouldering, holding, striking, pushing, or tripping in any way of an


opponent. The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a
foul; the second shall disqualify him until the next basket is made or, if there
was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game. No
substitution shall be allowed.
2. A foul is striking at the ball with the fist, violation of rules three and four and
such described in rule five
3. The side making the most points in the allotted time is declared as the
winner.
4. Free throws would be awarded starting on the 6th foul committed by a team
for that half.
5. Fouling a shooter always results in two or three free throws being awarded to
the shooter, depending upon where he was when he shot.
6. When a team makes a basket, they score two points and the ball goes to the
other team. If a basket, or field goal, is made outside of the three-point arc,
then that basket is worth three points. A free throw is worth one point.
7. Substitutions can be made after informing the on field referee.
8. The Referee’s decision would be final and any arguments, using of foul
language or if any kind of indiscipline is shown by the player/team would
result in the player being sent out or the team being disqualified for the rest
of the tournament.

Time Regulations:
1. Each game will consist of two 15-minute halves with a 3-minute half time.
(Semi-Finals and Finals would consist of 4 quarters of 10 min each.)
a. The clock will run continuously with the exception of injuries, referees
time and time-outs.
b. Two time outs are allowed per team for a period of 30 secs each per
half.
c. In the last minute of each half, the clock shall stop with every
violation, foul or free throw and will not start again until the ball is
touched in-bounds following a throw-in.
d. If the game ends in a tie, then there will be 3-minute overtime period
with one time-out allotted per team.
e. Clock starts when the ball is tipped during the jump ball.
f. Time-outs will not be carried over from half to half.
g. Time-outs in excess of the allotted number will result in a technical
foul.

Overtime

1. Overtime in case of a tie at the end of the match, will consist of a 3-


minute period. Teams are entitled to one 30 second time-out in the
overtime period.

Points:

1. If fouled while not shooting, the ball is given to the team the foul was
committed upon. They get the ball at the nearest side or baseline, out of
bounds, and have 5 seconds to pass the ball onto the court.
2. When there is an Out-of bound situation, the ball needs to be given to the
referee.
3. Once the offense team has taken the ball across the mid-court line, they
cannot go back across the line during possession. If they do, the ball is
awarded to the other team to pass inbounds.
4. The Offense team would have 8 Secs to cross the mid-court line failing which
the ball is awarded to the other team to pass inbounds.
5. 24 secs of Shot-clock would be incorporated (the offense team need to make
an attempt of scoring within this time).

Any changes/alterations in the rules would be informed to the teams before the
start of the game.
Referee’s/Organising team’s decision would be final.
