Notes from Department Chair Meeting on 10/18/2022

 8 teachers, principal, and guidance counselor present at the meeting.

 Talk about new hirings.

o There is a new full time German teacher.

o They talk about his excitement to be here, and the good things students and

faculty members have been saying about him.

 Action plans and SLOs.

o Address important information with these two topics such as when they are due

and what is expected.

 Department chairs ask questions for clarification.

 Upcoming early release date on 10/28.

o No periods 1 or 2 for the senior pep rally.

o Teachers may stay after the early release to work on grading since the end of the

first 9 weeks is 10/31.

 Foundation scholarships- want to get back to teacher mini grants.

 Some discussion on the need to practice virtual days.

o How are they going to be consistent with taking attendance on virtual days?

 Senior week coming up.

o Hawaiian Day- 10/24

o Decade Day- 10/25

o Group Day- 10/26

o Dress Up Day- 10/27


o Neon Day- 10/28

 Students must have an actual early dismissal before they can leave the classroom to

leave.

o There have been students saying they have an early dismissal when they do not

and they leave class/school.

 CSI report came in and they will share what they can about that.

o The principal spoke highly of my ability to answer the questions for this report

when the CSI people came into my classroom when my cooperating teacher was

not present to check the safety of the classroom and if the classroom is prepared

for emergencies.

 Ends the meeting by going around the table to see if any of the department chairs have

questions.

This department chair meeting was interesting for me to see. Even though it was short and

there was not much that was discussed, it allowed me to see the kind of things that go on behind

the scenes. These teachers put in a lot of effort to stay relevant in the school and stay on top of

the different things going on in the school so that they can keep the teachers in their department

informed and educated. By observing this meeting, I can see how teachers being involved in

more than just the classes they teach is crucial in order to help keep the entire school running

smoothly.
