•Computer System- It consists of Hardware components along w/ peripheral devices that work
together, and a software or programs that run in the computer.

•Hardware- electronic or mechanical part of a computer system. It is the physical/ tangible parts.

CATEGORIES OF HARDWARE
•Input devices- to enter data into the computer
•Output Devices
•Processing Device
•Storage Devices

2 TYPES OF INPUT DEVICES


•Keyboard Entry- 100-104 alphanumeric caps
•Direct Entry
-Pointing Device (mouse, touchscreen, touchpad/glidepad)
-Scanning Device (scanner)
-Voice Input Devices (microphone)

•Output Device- Any piece of computer that has a function or displaying the results after the computer
has processed the Input Data that has been entered.

•Monitor- it’s like a television or Cathode Ray Tube that displays data from your computer.
LED- Light Emitting Diode
LCD- Liquid Crystal Display
•Projectors- it displays the image on a wall sized-screen.
•Smartboard- it is similar to a touchscreen which is a touch sensitive transparent panel.
•Printer- it is a device that print images or pictures created on the computer on paper.
-Hardcopy: the printed output from the printer.

•Thermal Printer

•Speaker- produce sound generated by your computer. Your computer need a sound card to be able to
process audio but most motherboards have this built-in.

•KEYBOARD IS THE OLDEST INPUT DEVICE

•STORAGE DEVICE
-Primary Storage/Main Memory
-Secondary Storage/External Memory

•Primary Storage- Internal storage that holds data & instructions that the computer follow to perform
commands. It is also where all the important commands and instructions are placed.

•Hard Drive
-SSD: Solid State Drive (chip, and much more faster than HDD)

•PROCESSING DEVICE- Any component in a computer that recieves input and processes the input to
receive and output
•System Unit- All the other parts of a computer must be connected in one way or another to the CPU.
Peripherals like printer, scanner, mouse and keyboard are usually connected to the parts located at the
back of the system unit.
•Internal Parts- located inside the system unit
•External Parts- located outside the system unit.

USB Port (Universal Series Bus)- where the USB sticks are inserted
•Ports- are slots located at the back of the system unit where cables are plugged.
•LED- a power indicator/ HDD Activity Light or RAM Activity Light or Diagnostic Light found
infront of the system unit.
•Power Switch- used to turn on/off the computer.
•Reset Switch- used to restart the computer without turning it off.

INTERNAL PARTS OF THE SYSTEM UNIT


•Motherboard- also known as mainboard
•CPU (Central Processing Unit)=brain of the computer, main processor
•Expansion Slot- where expansion card are installed
•Video card
•PSU (Power Supply Unit)- special type of power transformer
