1. In my opinion, « tough conditions » might have included corporal punishment
and bullying on a daily basis and also some difficulties in studying, because
there were not so many resources which help us to understand the material
better as it is today.
2. Fortunately, I have never been a witness of bullying in my school, but I can’t
deny the fact that it exists. The issue of school bullying has spread across the
globe to the extent that the United Nations has taken a stance on the matter in
its End Violence Against Children initiative after a published report that 24% of
Ukrainian children are facing harassment in schools. In some other sources it is
mentioned that About 70 % of children in Ukraine are facing bullying in their
daily life and 20% of children who carry out bullying do not understand what
they are doing. And according to recent UNICEF data, in Ukraine, 67% of
teenage children are constantly experiencing bullying cases (mostly school
bullying), 48% of victims were not told or asked for help, 40% are ashamed to
talk about it and 22% consider this behavior a normal phenomenon. At the same
way, more than half of the victims do not tell anyone about such cases because
they fear that their offenders will not be punished.
