Laboratory Number 7: Stormwater Runoff and Hydrographs

Problem 1: The following stream flow data was collected for a hydrograph.

a. Plot the hydrograph as an x-y scatter plot.

b. Separate the base flow from the stream flow hydrograph using the straight line method.
c. Calculate the direct rainfall hydrograph (DRH) and plot it as an x-y scatter plot.

Problem 2: The following gross rainfall data was collected at the same time as the discharge data
in Problem 1.

a. Given a watershed area of 150 acres, determine the depth of the runoff.
b. Create a unit hydrograph by normalizing the DRH from Problem 1.
c. Determine the amount of losses (initial abstraction, infiltration). This is the difference between
the gross rainfall volume and the volume of the DRH.
