But with proper precautions, the vessel can be said of higher safety than ordinary tankers. To maintain safety of cargo handling operations, characteristics of cargoes, vessel's equipment and handling procedures must be well understood. This operation manual is prepared for cargo handling operations on board and explains general procedures of cargo handling according to the requirement of IGC CODE CHAPTER 18. 1. 1 ‘As for operation procedure of each equipment, each instruction manual is to be referred to. 1 Outline of the vessel 4.1 General This vessel is an ocean going single screw diesel driven multi-purpose gas carrier. This vessel is provided with equipment to load, contain and unload liquefied petroleum gas cargoes (propane, butane, or any mixture of them), butylene, propylene, anhydrous ammonia (NH), vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), and butadiene. The cargo containment system is designed on the minimum temperature of -50°C and maximum specific gravity of 0.69 (98% full) or 0.97 (abt.70% full). This vessel has capabilities of loading, carrying and unloading two (2) kinds of refrigerated cargoes simultaneously. The midship part of the vessel is partitioned into three (3) hold-compartments by water tight bulkhead. Each hold is provided with an externally insulated cargo tank separated from the hull. (Independent tank) Holds are always filled with inert gas. Therefore, person cannot enter into holds usually, however access space is provided for inspection during docking. All equipments conceming cargo handling are provided on the upper deck, except cargo pump and level gauge, and pipes are installed in the tanks through trunk such as filing pipes, etc. Pipes and electric cables led fore and aft on the upper deck are installed on “A” frame passage provided on port side. Boil-off gas generated in the cargo tanks during voyage is reliquefied by the reliquefaction plants provided in the deck house on upper deck and reliquefied liquid is returned to the cargo tanks. The cargo contro! console is provided in the cargo & engine control room located on A deck of accommodation house for the purpose of centralized monitoring of cargo and associated equipment during cargo handling operation. 1.2 Cargoes As mentioned above, the vessel is designed and built for carrying the following kinds of cargo. (1) High pressure liquefied petroleum gas is not to be loaded according to design pressure of cargo tank. (2) Cargoes which have higher density than 690 kg/m3 shall be partially loaded. (3) Carriage temperature of anhydrous ammonia in cargo tanks shail be maintained preferably at a temperature from close to the boiling point of -33°C, but in no case at a temperature above -20°C. (4) Cargoes including too much ethane, pentane, and hydrocarbon content are not to be loaded in the view points of reliquefaction plant capacity and design temperature of the cargo handling equipment. (8) Fresh or sea water are not to be loaded into cargo tank for purpose of ballast, etc. It is necessary to eliminate water in the cargo tanks to prevent cargo pumps and spray nozzles from freezing 1.3 Cargo tank 1.3.1 Design condition and structure (1) Design condition Minimum service temperature : -60 Maximum tank pressure : 28 KPaG (45 KPaG in harbor condition) Maximum specific gravity of cargo : 0.69 t/m* (98% full) or 0.97 tim? (abt. 70% full) Note: Port and starboard side liquid level in cargo tank is to be almost same. (2) Structure Each cargo tank is divided by a center line bulkhead into port and starboard compartments, and is provided with a transverse swash bulkhead at around mid-length of the tank. Each cargo tank has two (2) trunks at top on center and after part of the tank, protruding from upper deck, through which all necessary piping and accessories are fitted or led into the tank. The center jine bulkhead of No.1 and No.3 Cargo tanks is liquid tight except at top where suitable opening is provided to interconnect the vapour spaces of each port and starboard half tank. Those openings are provided above tank upper plate within both aft and center trunks, and are suitable for passage of persons. However, it is not allowed to load different kinds of cargo in the P & $ each compartments, and liquid level of P & S compartments must be almost the same. The center line bulkhead of No.2 cargo tank is non tight construction. In the aft compartments of each tank, there are sumps with depth of about 400mm at the bottom. (One in each compartment (P & S).) The deepwell pump is placed in this sump. A bulkhead valve is fitted on the lower part of the longitudinal bulkhead in No.1 and No.3 cargo tank for purpose of making liquid passage between P & S compartments in the event of malfunction of cargo pumps and correcting liquid levels of P & S compartments. However, the bulkhead valve is to be closed usually to prevent ship's stability from effect of free surface. In addition, usually more than two valves are not to be opened simultaneously and the vaive is not to be opened in stormy weather. Tank support and anchoring The cargo tanks are separated from the hull and tank supports and anchors are provided between tank and hull. (1) (2) Tank support Load bearing blocks are provided between tank bottom and bearing seat of steel structure installed on the double bottom for tank support, and act as thermal insulation. Material of the load bearing block is cloth laminated phenol resin. Anchoring For preventing the cargo tank from horizontal motion by pitching and rolling of ship and for thermal insulation, anchoring devices are provided on top and bottom of the cargo tank. Anchoring devices consist of the followings: a) Pitching anchor To block longitudinal motion of the cargo tank by pitching, b) Rolling anchor To block transverse motion of the cargo tank by rolling, ©) Antifloating device Anti-floating devices are provided on transverse bulkheads to prevent floatation of cargo tanks in case of flooded hold spaces, however anchor blocks, which are for thermal insulation, are not Provided, Material of the anchor block is cloth laminated phenol resin. Reference drawing; DWG. NO. FZ3-UD0001F SPECIFICATION OF LOAD BEARING BLOCK AND ANCHOR BLOCK FOR CARGO TANK ° 1.3.3 Expansion rubber Inert gas is usually filled in the hold space for safety. Expansion rubber is provided for the purpose of sealing up the hold space from atmosphere and absorption of the relative motion between hull and cargo tank. Material of the expansion rubber is chloroprene rubber. Therefore, the cargo is evaporated by the heat ingress generated by the differential temperature between atmosphere and cargo. In order to reduce the heat ingress, outside of the cargo tanks are insulated with polyurethane foam layer. As for trunk top part, anti-heat convection sheets are provided under each trunk top for reducing the heat ingress from the trunk top. Reference drawing: OWG. No. FZ3-UD0010F CARGO TANK INSULATION FZ3-UD3101F ANTI HEAT CONVECTION SHEETS 1.4 Loading and unloading conditions 1.4.1. Rate of loading and unloading Cargo is loaded by pumps of shore side into cargo tanks pre-cooled down to safe temperature. Maximum loading rate using vapour lines connected to shore is 2,400 m°th. Boil-off gas in the cargo tanks during loaded voyage is to be reliquefied by reliquefaction plant and returned to the cargo tanks. Three (3) sets of reliquefaction plants are provided in the deck house amidships, and can reliquefy two (2) kinds of cargoes simultaneously. Unloading is carried out by six (6) sets of cargo pumps in the vessel and maximum unloading rate is 2,400 m%/h in case of vapour supply from shore. In general a little cargo is to be remained in the cargo tanks during ballast voyage for the purpose of keeping the positive pressure of tank and cool condition of the cargo tanks, and boiboff gas in the cargo tanks is to be handled in the same manner as loaded voyage. 10 1.4.2 Limitation of Loading Attention is to be paid to the limitation of loading to the cargo tanks at loading in a view point of cargo tank structure. The filling limit at the reference temperature and loading temperature for the cargoes is to be according to the attached table. The cargoes having higher density than 690 kg/m3 shall be partially loaded. No loading limitation due to sloshing. As for details of loading procedure, refer to the following drawings. DWG. JIS AL 1807400 ® nave AT LDAD ING “TEMPERATURE; NG LIMIT FILL 1.5 Cargo handling equipment 1.5.1 Cargo pumps Cargo is unloaded using the deepwell cargo pumps. In each cargo tank, two (2) cargo pumps and are provided. The cargo pumps are fitted in the sumps. Cargo pump is arranged with an intermediate shaft and column pipes arranged in sections and designed to support the pump casing. At the lower part of the shaff, a split coupling is provided to remove the pump casing without dismantling the entire pump shaft. The pump is fitted with double mechanical seai with liquid chamber to prevent the cargo to leak to the atmosphere. These seals are able to be dismantied with the cargo tank loaded. A supporting ring with guiding device is provided at the sump level to prevent lateral motion of the pump casing whilst allowing thermal contraction of the pump pipe. No. FZ7-ULO101F DEEPWELL PUMP & BOOSTER PUMP 13 4 1.5.2 Booster pumps Two (2) booster pumps are provided on deck. The pump is fitted with double mechanical seal. The parallel or series operation of the booster pumps is possible, with partial or total by-pass of the cargo heater for discharge temperature control. Maximum discharge pressure is 1.8MPaG. No. FZ7-ULO101F OEEPWELL PUMP & BOOSTER PUMP 1S 1.8.3 Reliquefaction plant Cargo in cargo tanks is evaporated continuously by heat ingress from air and sea water through ship's hull and by ship's motion. The function of reliquefaction plant is to reliquefy above mentioned boil-off gas and return to the tanks, and keep the same condition of cargo as at the loading port. Boil-off gas is compressed to high pressure, is cooled down to liquid state by condenser and finally teaches the same temperature and pressure as liquid in tank by expansion valve. This reliquefied liquid (including gas generated by expansion) is retuned to the tanks. Reliquefaction compressors, condensers, expansion valves and associated piping and equipment are arranged in the reliquefaction compressor room located amidships on upper deck. Electric devices such as driving motors for the compressors are provided in the motor room, which is located forward of the reliquefaction compressor room and separated there from by steel bulkhead. Intermediate driving shafts penetrate steel bulkhead to drive the compressors with gas tight seal system. Exhaust type mechanical ventilators for the reliquefaction compressor room and supply type mechanical ventilators for motor room are to be provided in order to make differential pressure between the two rooms so that leaked gas in the compressor room must not flow into the motor room. Valve manifolds and pipe line spool piece connections are provided on both reliquefaction gas and liquid lines in the compressor room and at the port side of the cargo compressor room to control the number and application of running compressors according to the amount of boil-off gas and cargo piping system. PLANT ROOM 16 1.5.4 Heater vaporizer One (1) set of cargo heater vaporizer is provided on deck for both of cargo liquid heating and cargo vaporizing. . The heater vaporizer is of “shell and tube” type. Heating capacity is as follows. The tanks are made of low temperature grade steel and supported by two (2) foundation saddles, aligned with the deck structure. The tanks rest on hard wood blocks and are fixed by holding down bolts through four (4) steel brackets welded on the tanks. At one end of the tank, the holes are elliptical to allow differential contraction of the tank. Warning: NH3 shall not be loaded in the propane deck tank even partial filling because this tank has not been thermal treated. Reference drawings; DWG.
