Statement of Purpose

Knowledge and proper trainings are essential to succeed in today's highly competitive world.
Professional education has its own merits, particularly in the field of Mathematics. My Bachelor’s
Degree in Mathematics Education from Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, has inculcated
in me, the zeal to proceed in higher education for entering in research and development
environment. Hence, I therefore wish to pursue my Masters studies in Mathematics in your
citadel of learning-the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), on a full time
basis and participate in activities that will improve and expand my field of expertise in my chosen
field of research.

It is my wish to complete my M. Sc. so that I can teach future would-be Mathematicians, conduct
research in the University and research institutes, and contribute to the improvement of
Mathematics research and education. Over the past years, my struggle towards achieving this
goal has been tortuous so it has given me the opportunity to teach Mathematics from
kindergarten grade to college students. The experience I gathered has been a pathway for me to
discover methods to improve my expertise as a Mathematician and the role that research plays
toward improving my classroom performance. In addition, I had participated in various
conferences, seminars and workshops and these have aided me in realizing the need to bring
research back to the classroom and industry and to lead teachers/lecturers toward a better
understanding of Mathematics.

I have developed interests in the areas of Functional Analysis, Complex Analysis, Topology,
Statistics and Probability, Real Analysis, Algebra, Mathematics Methods, Differential Equations
and Numerical Analysis to mention but few. My choice of courses for the master’s program will
in fact be a sequel to these fields.
I am aware of the expertise of Dr. Berinde, V. and Dr. Faisal Fairag on Numerical Analysis. My
interest lies in this area also as I had worked previously on it during my bachelor’s degree.
Pursuing my master’s degree under their supervision would be a great privilege.
By completing a Master degree in Mathematics at KFUPM, I plan to improve my own expertise in
Mathematics research and education, so I can help bridge the gap between research and practice.
