Indicators of Effective Career Management

Many people do not have the proper skills to manage their skills properly. Career management is a
problem solving and decision-making process. Greenhaus and Callanan have identified four indicators of
effective career management.
They suggest that effective career management requires:
 Deep knowledge of the employee himself/herself and an accurate picture of the environment.
 The development of realistic goals that are compatible with one’s values, interest, abilities and
desired lifestyle,
 The development and implementation of appropriate career strategies and
 Continual feedback process that permits adaptation in the face of the changing situation.
