What is a Digital Planning app?
A Digital Planner App is a PDF annotation app that hosts your planner
and allows you to make edits on the planner such as write on it,
duplicate pages, add images to the planner.
The Digital Planner App is what makes the experience of planning
digitally very similar to planning on paper.
There are several annotation apps available in the App Store and
Google Play. However, below I have listed the most popular annotation
apps used for digital planning:
GoodNotes
Noteshelf *
Notability
ZoomNotes
Xodo *

* Apps available for Android users.

1. GoodNotes
Only available for iOS users
Premium Universal App: with a one-time payment (generally under
$10 USD) you get access to the app for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Easy to use
This is possibly the most popular app for digital planning among iOS
users. It's a great app in general and it has had some amazing features
added recently.
The only negative point about this app (and the reason why I don't use it
for my daily planning) is the need to toggle the pen setting on and off
whenever you need to use the hyperlinks inside the planner. There are a
couple of hacks for overcoming this but they are also cumbersome.
I nd it unnecessary as other apps such as Noteshelf and Notability have
seamlessly integrated the use of hyperlinks while the pen feature is on.
If it wasn't for this one thing I would probably be using GoodNotes daily
so don't feel discouraged to give it a try.

2. Noteshelf
Available for both iOS and Android users
Premium App: with a one-time payment (generally under $10 USD)
you get access to the app for iPhone and iPad (or smartphone and
tablet )
Easy to use
This is app I use and recommend for beginners because it is so easy and
also available for many users.
The interface on iOS devices is identical to the interface for Android
making for a shorter learning curve if you ever change devices.
The only negative point about this app is that you need to purchase the
app again if you plan on using your digital planner with your Mac
computer as the app is not universal like GoodNotes.
Further, you cannot install it on Windows computers and also not sync
les between iOS and Android devices.

3. Notability
Available only for iOS users
Premium App: with a one-time payment (generally under $10 USD)
you get access to the app for iPhone, iPad and Mac
Easy to use
Notability is a great app for digital note taking and digital planning.
It has fun features such as voice memos, built-in GIF library and sticky
notes.
Changing the digital covers is a bit of workaround using Notability but
not one that is so essential for many people.
If you're an iOS user this is a great app to have.

4. ZoomNotes
Available only for iOS users
Premium App:with a one-time payment (generally under $10 USD)
you get access to the app for iPhone, iPad and Mac
Not as user friendly as the other apps
ZoomNotes is a robust apps with many features that are not available
in any other app I have ever tested such as adding hyperlinks to your
planner and create Dutch Door pages.
However, the app is not really user friendly and I don't recommend it for
total beginners. One you open the interface you'll notice the difference
between ZoomNotes and the other apps.
It's de nitely a fun app to try once you're used to digital planning and
want to explore what else you can achieve with a powerfully built app.
ZoomNotes has a Lite version which is free. I couldn't tell what
features where missing on the Lite version when I tested it (but it was a
long time ago, so things may have changed).

5. Xodo
Available for both iOS and Android users
Free App
Easy to use
Xodo is available for iOS and Android users but I actually don't
recommend Xodo for iPad users as the interface is totally different
from the Android version and lacks some very important features
such as the ability to duplicate pages!
On the other hand Xodo is great on Android devices. In fact I am always
between Xodo and Noteshelf when considering apps for Android users.
They are both great but Xodo is free.
I would say that the interface is not as simple as Noteshelf's interface
but still quite straight forward and with a bit of time adjusting you
should have no problem using Xodo.
