About the Society

Alchemy Theatre Society is a group of IIT Delhi & MNNIT Allahabad alumni. The group collaborates with theatre
artists and the college alumni associations regularly to develop work for stages, explore a diverse range of plays, and
support practitioners through development and training. Since opening our doors, we’ve been committed to helping
theatre artists, students and alumni pursue a career they love. Alchemy Theatre Society provides a unique and highly
personalized method of learning, creating an environment to nurture, educate and encourage creative individuals to

Alchemy theatre society was founded on 7th October 2018, performing their first ever show – Manav Kaul’s “Park” at
seminar hall, IIT Delhi. Since then, we have worked on 17 productions so far and performed 54 shows across 5 cities
(Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur & Chandigarh). Few of our famous productions are – Manav Kaul’s “Park”, Samuel
Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot”, Neil Simon’s “Fools”, Nitin Gupta’s “Love in December, and our in-house thriller
production – “Qaid”. When the auditoriums were closed during covid, we collaborated with 150+ artists virtually for
online poetry festivals, short films, theatre festivals, mono-act competitions, Guftugu – an online conversation with
eminent theatre personalities, and online theatre workshops.

About the Play

Name: Welcome to Akalpur

Theme: Comedy

Synopsis:

Welcome to Akalpur is a Hindi adaptation of Neil Simon's 'Fools', written in late 19th century. The adaptation is a
comic fable, set in a small imaginative village of Akalpur. The story follows Mohan, a schoolteacher who takes a new
job educating Radha, the daughter of Dr.Rastogi and his wife, Sarita. Mohan soon learns that there is curse on the
village that makes everyone stupid, but complications ensue when he falls in love with his pupil.
