Why did the Catholic Church actively oppose the passing of the Rizal Bill?
- Because Rizal published works that were critical of religious orders since he was a Freemason.
The Church wanted to close a chapter in Philippine history where its priests were more focused
on gaining temporal power than they were on eternal life and following Christ's teachings.

What provision from the Rizal Bill allowed the government to approve it that answers the
arguments provided by the Catholic Church?
-The Rizal bill's restrictions imposed by the Catholic Church enabled the government to pass it in
response to the church's objections. Also, Catholic schools have threatened to shut down in
opposition if the bill is approved. If this happened, Recto quickly stated that the church did not
want schools to become nationalized.

Did the Church's views on the study of Jose Rizal's life and works changed over the years? Why
or why not?
-  I think the Church's views on Rizal's life and work have changed, the ideals for which Rizal
battled cannot be attained by spreading lies and exaggerations against a Philippine institution
that is very important to Filipinos.

What is the Rizal Law all about?
- Republic Act 1425 is the foundation for the implementation of the Rizal course as a requirement
for all students enrolled in different institutions and universities. This law promotes a deeper
sense of nationalism among Filipinos at a time when the nation's identity is fading.

Why do we need to study the Rizal Law?


- We may honor our national hero Rizal for dedicated his life and work to fostering Filipino
character and getting an enlightening source of patriotism by studying his life, works, and
writings.

What can you benefit from studying Jose Rizal's life and works?
- To obtain a better understanding of the significance of Rizal's ideals and teachings in light of the
social issues and events that are currently taking place by studying his life and works. Students
may be inspired to apply these principles to current societal and private problems. Lastly, to
better understand and appreciate all that Rizal sacrificed his life for.
