N.E.S.T. Critical Reflection.

While in my final year of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in
Education (Design, Graphics and Construction), myself and one
of my classmates completed a N.E.S.T (Nurturing Excellence in
Student Teachers) class with the third years. In our class we taught the third-year students how to
set up their school placement 3 folders properly to keep all their resources and information in the
correct places, this is to make it easy for their tutors to access everything that they need to. We also
showed the third-year students how to use the hyperlink function to attach important information
to their Master Excel files. At the end of the lesson, my classmate and I showed the students how to
correctly share their files with their lecturer.

During the class we encountered some minor difficulties, for example, we had some technical
difficulties with sending the 3rd year students a file they needed, we were required to think on the
spot and our resolution was to ask a student in 3rd year to share the file with the rest of the class via
Teams, it took a few minutes to solve the problem and if we were to complete the N.E.S.T class again
we would ensure that all the material needed was more easily accessible for the students.

After the class our lecturer gave us feedback, some of the feedback I was given was to dress more
professionally, so in future I would aim to wear more professional clothes. Another thing I would do
differently would be to monitor the students more closely as there were times where some of the
student's lost concentration and this led to them falling behind in the tasks they were supposed to
be completing, in future I will walk around the class more to ensure that the students are continuing
to do the work they are supposed to be doing.

If we were to do another N.E.S.T class, I would also like to take more control, I think I let my
classmate take most of the control over the class, I did not speak as much as he did, although this
was unintentional.

On reflection, I think the N.E.S.T class went very well, most of the students successfully shared the
link for their folders with their lecturer and we received feedback from our lecturer to say that the
third-year students had completed the tasks as we instructed them to.
