What do you think is/are the greatest contribution/s of the colonizers to the Philippine Arts? How did this
affect our culture?

-To begin with, before the colonization period or Pre-conquest period the arts of ancient filipinos were for
ritual purposes or everyday use only. When the Islamic colonization began Islam was embraced as a
religion and as a way of life. Islamic art artist are influenced by the notion of the tawhid. They also
organized space in architecture. During the Spanish colonization they used art as an instrument to spread
Catholicism through beautiful images that was produced by painting, sculpting and engraving. In the time
of the American colonization they used favored landscapes, still life, and genre themes that show the
beauty of the land and its people. In conclusion the greatest contributions of the colonizers to Philippine
Arts are formal paintings, sculpture, literature and architecture. It affected our culture bigtime, one of its
examples is “pyschocultural marginality” or the loss of one's cultural identity along with social and
personal disorganization.
