Background of the Study

This study focuses on Socio – Economic Status and College Degree Preferences of ABM

Students. Conducting this study discuss the difficulties of abm students to their college degree

because of social economics right now such as Inflation, Access to computers, Location of the

School, Tuitions, and Expenses. Researchers, conduct this study to determined the situation and

any other conflict that can help the students understand well and choose the perfect career to

become reliable to every path or decision they will make.

In global evidence, on conclusive evidence that socio-economic status, among other factors,

affects the book choices of young readers has so far eluded reading comprehension researchers.

Thus, the quest still goes on for a statistically valid instrument that may be used as a measure of

reading preferences. Through such investigation, an accurate reading interest scale might be

provided. Accordingly, the present study sets out to determine the effect of social status on

children’s book selections while employing a non-verbal test instrument in the form of pictures.

In National Evidence in Socio-economic Status and college degree, the researchers conducted a

survey among chosen ABM students. After the tally and analyzing the results, the researchers

found out that majority of the respondents who chose the Accountancy, Business, and

Management Strand has already focused their college program on ABM-related courses in

College such as Accountancy and Business Administration, while others chose courses in

Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and

Mathematics (STEM) mainly Psychology, Broadcast Communication, and Information


Technology. Although a big percentage of respondents answered Business courses, they also

consider on choosing some Non-ABM related courses.

In the regionals, A local research problem from Tacloban City entitled Factors Affecting Career

Preferences Among Senior High School Students in Tacloban states that the senior high school

student's choice of career and college degree although a mostly personal choice is not free from

any influence. Their choices, personal or advised, are affected by multiple factors. It is during

this period, that students are advised to prepare for their future worthwhile occupations.

Choosing the perfect career that will fit is one of the most important and crucial decisions that

every person has to make. This can be one of the measures of whether an individual will be

successful in the future or not.

The research gap of this study is to how does socioeconomic status affect the likelihood of grade

12 students of Cor Jesu College. Purpose of this study is for us to identify and know the socio-

economic status of college students and their college degree preferences of ABM students.

Conducting this study will benefit ABM students to focus on their degree preferences. This study

will help on picking college degrees and what is more preferred that will benefit ABM students.
Statement of the Problem

This study generally aims to investigate the preferences of ABM students' socioeconomic

status in choosing college degree courses.

Specifically, this study shall seek answers to the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of ABM students in terms of

a. Sex;

b. Grad Level

2. What is the level of socio-economic status in choosing a college degree?

3. What level of college degree courses do ABM students prefer to select?

a. BS Accountancy (BSA);

b. BS Accounting Technology (BSACT);

c. BS Accounting Information System; and or

d. Other college degree courses that are not related to the ABM strand.

4. Is there a significant difference between ABM students' socioeconomic status and college

degree preferences?
