Creating Tables in MS Word

1. Open a new word document


2. Go to Home🡺Styles🡺No Spacing
3. Go to Page Layout🡺Page Setup🡺Orientation and change the orientation to Landscape
4. Go to Insert🡺Headers & Footers🡺Header🡺3 columns
a. Type your Name, period & work station, Calendar
5. Make sure the margins are set to Normal
6. Format font: Arial Black, Centered, 14 pt, you choose the color
a. Type next month and year (Example: November 2010), and press Enter
7. Set the font to Arial, Left Aligned, 12 pt
8. Go to Insert🡺Tables🡺Table
a. Click and drag until seven columns and six rows (7x6) are selected
9. In the first row, type the column headings for the days of the week.
(Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday)
a. Use the TAB key to move to the next cell
10. Look at a calendar for NEXT month. Find out which day the month begins on. In the
appropriate column, type the number “1” in the second row. Press Enter 4 times.
11. In the next column, type the number “2”. Press Enter 4 times
12. Continue to complete the calendar, pressing Enter 4 times after each number, until your
calendar is complete.
13. You may fill in significant dates with appropriate information.
(YOUR TEACHER MAY PUT EVENTS ON THE BOARD FOR YOU TO USE or you may use the
internet to find holidays and dates.)
Some examples would be:
a. Nov 2 – 2nd Term Begins
b. Nov 4 & 5 – Theater 2 Play
c. Nov. 6 – WORD PROCESSING TEST
d. Nov 11 – Veterans’ Day
e. Nov 13 – Turkey Bowl at Davis Lanes
f. Nov 17 – Homemade Bread Day
g. Nov 18 – Mickey Mouse’s Birthday
h. Nov 25 through 27 – No School
14. If the holiday goes onto a second line, press the delete key to maintain the cell size
15. On the Table Tools-Design ribbon, in the Styles grouping, select an appropriate Style.
16. Apply the Style to your table by clicking on it.
17. Save the document as Calendar.docx
18. Check the Key on the S: drive (The Key may be for a different month and with different
information, but the overall design should be similar.)
19. Turn on Formatting marks and raise your hand to have the assignment checked
20. You may print this document for personal use if you would like.
