Transparency
Transparency is a characteristic or a state of being. It is simple for others to observe what is
done when transparency is employed, as it is in science, engineering, commerce, the
humanities, and other social situations. Transparency denotes honesty, openness, and
accountability. It is perhaps most frequently used metaphorically to describe a situation when
nothing is being done to conceal anything. To ensure that nothing is being hidden, a process
must be entirely visible and open to inspection. This word is used explicitly in relation to
politicians, government agencies, and enterprises and asks them to enhance their
transparency. Being cryptic is the opposite of this. Transparency, in its developing definition,
refers to a public value or standard of conduct intended to reduce corruption. Transparency is
implied in this comparison: When people access information, governance is enhanced.
Transparency is achieved when society, the government, the media, and businesses promote
decision-making. However, this metaphor depends on and is closely intertwined with
accountability. In reality, transparency has and will continue to have a variety of
interpretations that partially supplant responsibility. Metaphors for transparency describe how
governments and organisations should go about their daily business.
One of the most important insurance principles, the principle of Utmost Good Faith, can give
as an example. Here, the insurer is supposed to be open and honest with the insurance
provider, sharing any information that could affect the policy they might take. Another
example is the Freedom of Information Act, which is stated in our constitution and
guarantees every person the right to any information they may need about any subject.
Example from real life incident:
I want to cite an example from an incident that took place in my sister’s office during her
appraisal process. So her reporting officer was pleased with the quality of her work and
punctuality in finishing it, so he gave her excellent in her appraisal form. But when it went to
the higher authority, they changed it to very good and didn’t provide an explanation on why
the decision was reversed. Transparency was not maintained in terms of giving a proper
reason for this change in the appraisal remark. Many employees face this problem in the
organisation. So to maintain proper transparency, the office came up with a web portal where
the reporting officer can directly fill in the remarks of the appraisal. If an employee is not
satisfied with the comments, they can raise a concern and get a proper explanation.
