    This research article examines how music can influence the perception of paintings. It was published in 1998 in Empirical Studies of the Arts and investigated the effects of instrumental music on how viewers interpreted abstract paintings. The study found that participants who viewed paintings while listening to happy, upbeat music were more likely to perceive the paintings in a positive light compared to those who listened to sad, melancholy music or no music at all.
