Dynamical Systems and Building Models

A dynamical system
consists of a set of variables that describe its state and a law that
describes the evolution of the state variables with time (i.e., how
the state of the system in the next moment of time depends on the
input and its state in the previous moment of time).

The Hodgkin-Huxley Model[3]

C V̇ = I − ḡK n4 (V − EK ) − ḡNa m3 h (V − ENa ) − gL (V − EL )
ṅ = αn (V )(1 − n) − βn (V )n
ṁ = αm (V )(1 − m) − βm (V )m
ḣ = αh (V )(1 − h) − βh (V )h

The variables n and m are called activation variables and h is

inactivation variable. The coefficients αn , βn , αm , βm , αh and βh
denote rate constants for the opening and closing of gates.
