WHAT IS EXPERIMENTATION?

THE PROCESS OF PERFORMING A SCIENTIFIC PROCEDURE, ESPECIALLY IN A


LABORATORY, TO DETERMINE SOMETHING, “ EXPERIMENTATION ON THE
BRAIN AND THE NERVER”
THE ACTION OR PROCESS OF TRYING OUT NEW IDEAS, METHODS, OR
ACTIVITIES. “ IT WAS A PERIOD OF INNOVATION AND EXPERIMENTATION WITH
NEW DECORATIVE TECHNIQUES”
 A PROCEDURE CARRIED OUT UNDER CONTROLLED CONDITIONS IN ORDER TO
DISCOVER AN UNKNOWN EFFECT OR LAW, TO TEST OR ESTABLISH A
HYPOTHESIS, OR TO ILLUSTRATE A KNOWN LAW.

HOW TO USE EXPERIMENTATION AS A TEACHING STRATEGIES

EXPERIMENTS CAN BE USED TO INTRODUCE A NEW IDEA OR TO CLARIFY


PUZZLING ASPECTS OF TOPICS WITH WHICH STUDENTS TYPICALLY
STRUGGLE. IF THE RESULT OF AN EXPERIMENT IS SURPRISING YET
CONVINCING, STUDENTS ARE IN POSITION TO BUILD OWNERSHIP OF THE NEW
IDEA AND USE IT TO SCAFFOLD LEARNING.
EXPERIMENTATION ALLOWS STUDENTS TO MANIPULATE OBJECTS AND IDEAS
AND NEGOTIATE MEANINGS BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND WITH THE TEACHER
DURING THE LESSON
