THE GOOD TEACHER

John 3:1-2; Romans 2:19-20; 1Timothy 2:7

-Dr. Benny M. Abante, Jr.-

Preached during the Sunday Morning Service

October 09, 2016

Introduction

The world needs good and godly teachers today and it is sad that we are short of them. Not only in
terms of excellence but more so in character. I salute all good and godly teachers today. You are in an
occupation so many times unnoticed and unappreciated.

Message

Who is a good teacher?

1.

He introduces a subject in which he firmly believes in. It was necessary for the Lord as a teacher to tell
Nicodemus the necessity of the new birth in which He came for (John 3:3-5). Of course, He was not
understood (v.4).

2.

He is a bearer of good things (Romans 10:15). When a teacher gets all stressed up and pressured from
work, you can always notice it. The Gospel is good news to sinners like you and me.

3.

He points the way (1Timothy 2:7) - ‘verity’ here is truth (John 14:6).

4.

He leads his students to godliness. Unlike the teacher in Romans 2:19-23.

5.

He is a good example (2Timothy 3:10). Not perfect though but he follows after (Philippians 3:12).

Conclusion

The world needs this kind of a teacher today, more so the Philippines. How we need to pray for our
teachers. It seems we are losing our young people and we are giving them to the dogs because the
world knows nothing of the character of God based on the Bible. Even the Director General of the PNP
was quoted as saying to fellow policemen that drug addicts, users, pushers cannot be changed by law
alone, they need to return to God. The new birth, the Gospel is the only subject that can change the
lives of people.
