BPEA 2-2 Reflection Essay

Freedom is a privilege.

Capability is one thing, but freedom opens countless possibilities. When freedom
is acquired, you will or might discover your unleashed capabilities. As many people say,
you need to step out of your comfort zone, but that is not always the case. “A bird born in
a cage thinks that flying is an illness” proves that you do not always belong to somewhere
you were born. You might be accustomed to one place you thought you fit in, but it never
meant it was for you. You might be afraid to fly just because your environment is for
walking. Once you get out of the environment that hinders you from doing what you’re
capable of, it will be as freeing as flying.

Freedom is a privilege. Naturally, when you are born, you already have freedom.
But as you grow, you will realize that everything comes with a cost and sometimes you
cannot afford it because you do not have the freedom to do so. It will be a barrier for you,
a hindrance to doing something you want and you will think that you can never know how
to do it just because you cannot afford to do it, it will be taboo for you once you already
have the freedom to do it. Freedom is everything.

Once we lock up someone in an environment they are not meant to stay in, they
will think it is illegal for them to go out once they get used to the environment they stayed
in. The same thing with our education system, we are accustomed to studying science,
engineering, and mathematics, it is a requirement that you know these subjects. Science
high school is also a base of intelligence, but what about art schools? People expect
every intelligent student to enter stem-based schools or programs not minding if they want
to pursue arts or music.

A child is born with the capability to do everything he dreams of but doesn’t always
have the freedom. In an everchanging environment, it is natural to have prohibitions and
norms, but in today’s society, prohibiting one’s ability to do whatever one’s supposed to
do is like stopping them from flying even though they are born to fly. They will end up
hating themselves for not being capable of doing things they’re supposed to be good at.
Stop limiting others and start wishing them for the best. Birds are not meant for the cages
but they can stop by whenever they’re tired. Cages are like homes, it is our comfort zones,
our safe spaces, and the sky is the limit, we can fly on in and go beyond it if we found a
way how to.
