There are many idioms relating to teaching people how to use and spend money.

A famous person
named Thomas Jefferson used to say “never spend your money before you have earned it”. In my
opinion, it is true in some situations, but in some other cases, it is not.

In some cases, this saying is really useful for everyone, teaching people how to spend money. He meant
that it is not easy to earn money, and people have to work really hard to earn money. And it also means
that we have to think carefully before we make a purchase, we have to make sure that we can afford
the things that we are buying. So this saying helps us understand the value of money, and teaches us
how to use money reasonably. Otherwise, we may end up in debts, etc.

On the other hand, I think that there will be a few exceptions. For example, for those who want to get
rich, they are willing to borrow money to carry out business projects. If they make enough money to
carry out their business projects, then they have lots of the opportunities to pay back the money they
borrowed. In addition, this saying is not suitable for emergencies, if we are seriously sick, and we need
money for treatment, we should borrow it. Because if we wait until we make enough money to pay the
hospital fee, the disease can become more serious.

So I believe that, sometimes the saying is not true, but most importantly, its message is that we should
work hard for money and spend our money reasonably.
