Day 1 lecture was more of an introduction to marketing and it touched mainly on four major

topics namely:

- The Evolution of marketing


Marketing is relatively young vis-a-vis other disciplines. However, the industrial revolution
provoked a rapid rise in recognition of the discipline, which grew even faster, as the industrial
revolution changed phase (Industry 1.0 – 4.0). Marketing orientation also changed. Needs were
met through a set of dynamic means. Mass production, increase in suppliers, emergence of
computers and robotics to meet market and societal needs before competitors. Market
convergence is the phenomenon in present day marketing. Technology is introduced to identify
and meet customer needs.
- Definition of marketing
The activity or set of processes for creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offering
for value for stakeholders which ranges from customers to society at large.
- Elements of marketing
Product, Place, Price, Promotion (4Ps) and 3Ps relating to services – People, Process, Presence.
- Technologies of marketing.
It has to do with revolutionizing marketing and customer experience through the use of digital
elements of Industry 4.0. (IoE, Digital Reality, Big Data).
