Class: 301 Subject: Literature Topic: Introduction to Prose Objectives: Students will be able to 1) Define the term ‘Prose” 2) Identify examples of Prose 3) List the 5 main elements of Prose 4) Define the 5 main elements of Prose 5) Identify the elements in a given story Materials: Textbook - A World of Prose Content: Refer to content as contained in unit pln (week #2) Prerequisite: Students are already familiar with the elements of a story Activities: ● Teacher writes the word “Prose” on the board and students brainstorm for the definition. Teacher records students' responses on the board. ● Teacher clarifies any misconceptions and gives definition. ● Students Browse through text book and state their feelings towards the themes/titles of the short stories. ● Teacher explains that this term students will focus on four short stories. Teacher lists the stories ● Students summarize the short story ‘Raymond’s Run”(given previously as a reading assignment to prepare for the class). Teacher questions pupils on the details of the story. ● Question students to elicit the elements/structure of a short story. Introduce those that are not known and give definitions. ● Students are grouped in threes to identify the elements of Raymond’s Run. Students present their findings. Discuss students work Conclusion : Summarize the main points of the lesson Evaluation: Group work and class participation in discussion is evaluated. Extension: Students are asked to research the types of characters and themes generally found in short stories. (to be graded)
