Chosen Painting With Elements and Principles

Wassily Kandinsky’s painting “Yellow Red Blue” 1925 makes use of both repetition and pattern.
His repeated use of squares and circles and even simple lines forces the eyes to continuedly
move around the painting.
He uses proportion and scale to create asymmetrical balance. Elements of different size and
shape are position on the painting not to mirror each other but to balance one another out. He
creates contrast in the juxtaposition of primary colors against a white background.
This artwork has a chosen principle called repetition and pattern that consists of the similar
element repeated all over again which gives a sense of movement and structure. The pattern
inside the painting is created when there is an element that is similar enough to keep on
repeating. The description of Wassily Kandinsky’s artwork has uses of repeated shapes that are
very geometric such as triangles, circles, squares and simple lines that helps the user’s eye to
continue painting. There is a periodic example of pattern like boxes that are lined in the upper
right corner.
