waste
The article “How can we cut down on food waste?” by Rex Merrifield is telling us about what can
we do to reduce food waste.
This study was conducted in Europe with the main subjects being consumers and food
producers who usually waste food. The data used is an overview of the amount of food that is
thrown away around the world and from the results of previous studies. This study shows that
about a third of all the food produced in the world for human consumption is lost or wasted. The
author mentions that to keep up with the times now, things that we can do to cut down on food
waste is like using social media and mobile technology to match up people who have food that
may be about to go to waste, with those who can use it.
Seeing the amount of food waste produced by consumers and producers, this usually happens
because of marketing strategies such as "pay 2 for 3 items". This strategy is only carried out to
seek profit so that it does not take into account the consequences that arise because many
consumers buy it, whether they will actually be eaten or not. The articles that are written can
really make us aware that wasting food in vain can be bad for the environment, besides that it
would be better if the food could be given to people in need.
This article focuses on things we can do to reduce our habit of wasting food easily. Food waste
that is not managed properly can produce methane gas which contributes to global warming or
an increase in the earth's temperature and that’s why we must strive to reduce the amount of
food waste.
