Essay Outline

I. Introduction
Epic poem «Beowulf » can easily be called the most important poem in English
literature. Warriors, kings, monsters-this poem allows us to plunge into the lives
of the characters, understand their actions. In poem « Beowulf » we have seen
many excellent warriors but have we seen a truly good king? Despite being a
good warrior Beowulf was also a great King, who cleverly ruled his country.
II. Context
III. a. Wasn’t afraid of fighting with monsters
i. - Beowulf bravery offered his help and went to Denmark. He
didn’t know how powerful or terrible the monster was, but
he wasn’t afraid of fighting with it. It shows us how brave
and fearless he was.
ii. -He fights Grandel with no armor and weapons. He wanted
to defeat Grendel in a fair fight bare-handed.
iii. Beowulf agreed to fight with Grendel's mother in her
territory. Despite fighting alone he killed her.
IV. a. Generosity always accompanied him during his reign
i. - Beowulf was a generous king, he gave his horses and war
gear to King Hygelac
ii. - He proved his generosity by defending the people from the
dragon. He fought with the dragon despite knowing these
days were his last days.
V. a. His loyalty to his people was amazing
i. Gave treasure to the Gats
ii. Required to erect a tower to guide sailors
VI. a. Selfless
i. Beowulf did not rush to take command of the throne
ii. - He was going to risk his own life in order to save others.
VII. Conclusion
Honed martial feats didn’t stop Beowulf from becoming a great King.
The appearance and incredible power of the monsters never frightened
him, and generosity was his main attribute. All his subjects were
convinced of the loyalty of their king and they knew about the king’s
willingness to sacrifice himself at any moment. Beowulf wisely ruled the
country and was always prepared to protect his people.
