HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT FOR HANDS-ON MODULE/DEMO

One of T&L method in SEMM3253 is active learning. Active learning is conducted through Module/hands-on
activities. In preparation for Module/hands-on activities set in this course, the students are required to prepare the
following components/hardware and software.

The essential components are important and will be used in the project. As for the optional components, only buy
the components if you plan to use it in your project. Please refer the reference list for price and figure

Essential Components for IOT Project Module

1) ESP8266 (version 2)

Note: the price listed here is for your

reference only. You could get this at
cheaper price at other supplier.
NodeMCU ESP8266 V3 also could be used,
but the size will be much larger than V2,
and it’s difficult to fit into the breadboard.
Anyway, ESP8266 V3 is cheaper, and you
still could connect it by jumper wire, Version 2
instead of using breadboard.
2) Jumper Wire

Note: you will need both “Male to Male” and “Female to Male” cables.

3) Power Supply Adapter (MB102)

4) Breadboard

Optional Components

1) LED
2) Potentiometer

3) Motor Driver (L293D)

4) Digital Switch

5) DC Motor

Note: For N20 DC Motor, it’s more expensive (RM6.00) but you need not solder wire to the motor
anymore. For toy motor (RM1.40), it’s much cheaper but you need to solder the wire to the motor. You
may select either of these two motors, or any other motor available to you.
