Convergence
 A method for a direct mapping of FC frames over Ethernet
–Seamlessly connects to FC networks  Extends FC across the datacenter
over the Ethernet
• FCoE appears as FC to the host and the
network
• Preserves current FC infrastructure
and management
• FC frame is unchanged
–Can operate over standard switches FC
(with jumbo frames)
–Priority Flow Control guarantees no-drops
• Mimics FC credit-buffer system, avoids TCP
–Does not require expensive off-loads

Consolidation
Building hardware is migrating from proprietary independent networks and
connecting directly to the IT network
This can present enormous savings by replacing many networks with one
Visible today in IP security. Recent forecasts suggest that by 2020 this will be the
most common way of connecting and integrating all building systems
As buildings focus on efficiency we will see more energy monitoring and control
connect to the network, for example plug load control

It’s the Why!
With the right planning, the defining elements of capacity,
density, efficiency and scalability can be aligned through
the infrastructure.
One basic best practice: adopt the rack
as the basic building block for data
center density.

• Optimize the space
used on the rack-
cabinet by the copper
cabling.
– Angle panels (remove
horizontal managers)
– Increase port count per
RU
– Easy deployment
– Easy MAC’s

Fiber Solution
• Optimize the space
used on the rack-
cabinet by the fiber
cabling.
– Use of trunk cabling
– MPO/MPT Solutions
– Reduced diameter
cords

Whats a Trunk cabling
• Is a preconectorized cable with
diferent designs.
• In Data Center
– Microdistribution Loose Tube
– Single Loose Tube Indoor / Outdoor
• In the LAN
– Tight Buffer Distribution
– Tight Buffer Indoor/Outdoor Sunlight
Resistant

• 12, 24, 48, 72 strands

• Some 96 and above
• OM4, OM3 and OS2
• MTP-MTP, MTP-LC, LC-LC, SC, etc

Microdistribution Loose Tube Trunks
• Loose fiber premises cable
design for MTP/MPO array cable
assembly
• 3 mm loose fiber with 12 – 250
micron fibers
• 12 fiber subunits for 24, 48 and
72
• Targeted for MTP/MPO pre-term
cable assemblies for Data
Centers
• Riser and Plenum
• OM4, OM3, OS2
• No bend prefered bend radius

Network Performance
• Optimize cable support and patch
cord routing
• Minimize signal loss by controlling
bending
– Bend insensitive fiber
• Proper bend radiuses eliminate
kinking
• Increase data rate
• 40G Copper Cat 8
