Interview Preparation

“Failing to plan is planning to fail”

This quote is particularly relevant and applicable when it comes to interview preparation. Far more often than not,
candidates spend too much time focusing on preparing their CV, yet ironically spend very little time, if any,
preparing for interviews and refining their interview skills/technique.

Top Tips:

1. Note down the Date, Time, and Platform of the interview.

There is nothing more embarrassing than turning up late at the wrong time. Arrive at the interview link 10 minutes
before your scheduled interview. This gives additional time to prepare and always checks your connectivity to
prevent lagging video interviews.

2. Dress for success.

a. Men: Dress in a manner that is professionally appropriate for the position you are applying for. Smart
casual is preferred, better for you to wear a shirt and pants to interview. Avoid loud colors and a t-shirt.
Clothing should be neat and clean. If you have a beard or mustache, make sure they are well-groomed.
b. Women: Smart casual is also preferred, avoid loud colors and t-shirts. Some clean makeup and hair ties
might enhance the overall looks to be more clean and neat.
3. Research the company thoroughly – Products, services, strategic plans, major customers, competitors, major
company announcements. The first question many users ask to test how well a candidate has prepared is: “So tell
me, what do you know about our company?” and “Why do you want to work here?”. Make sure you have
prepared answers for both of these questions. Here are some sites that you can start from:

● Lamudi Website - https://www.lamudi.co.id/about-us/

● Lamudi Career Page - https://www.lamudi.co.id/careers/
● Lamudi LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/lamudi-co-id/about/
● @LifeatLamudi Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/lifeatlamudi/

4. Research who you are going to be interviewed by – look at their LinkedIn profile, look at their social media. Ask
yourself - do you have any mutual connections in common that can be used as an ice-breaker throughout the
interview?

5. Research the role – review the job description, and ensure you have a thorough understanding of the
raw comparisons with your past experience in
responsibilities and what will be expected of you in that role. D
similar roles. Prepare to talk about what interests you about this role.

6. Be aware of your skills, abilities, and experiences. Ensure you are able to talk about how you could contribute
to the role and organization. Be self-aware about your strengths, but also your development points and areas you
would like to improve.

7. Be ready to ask relevant questions. Towards the end of the interview, you will be asked if you have any
questions for the interviewer(s). This is the most poorly handled question by many applicants. H ave a few
questions prepared in advance. Having no questions to ask reflects on your lack of preparation. Here are some
examples (please note: only ask around 3 in an interview):

A. How will my performance be measured and by what criteria?

B. What do you like about working here? What has kept you here?
C. What is the working environment and culture like?
D. What major challenges will face in this role in the first 6 months?
E. What does success look like in this role in the first 3 months, 6 months,12 months?
F. What differentiates high performers in your company as opposed to average performers?

8. Summarise your interest in the role. Explain why this opportunity ticks your boxes based on your research of the
company, learning more about the job, and meeting with the interviewer. If you’re interested, let them know and
give them commercial reasons as to WHY.

9. Ask the interviewer for feedback and if they feel there are any gaps in your experience or concerns. This is
incredibly important. If you’re serious about the opportunity, after summarising your interest, ask if they feel you
may be a fit for the role. Follow this question by straight out asking if they feel there are any gaps in your
experience or concerns – this is your chance to potentially alleviate any concerns they have on the spot.

10. Time Efficiency. The interview will take around 15 mins only. Make sure you’re not overselling yourself but also
elaborate on your experiences straight to the point. Keep it 2 ways of communication.

Good luck with your interview preparation.
