Explain the diagram below.

English
In English language, nouns are used to name things we want to talk about (like people, places, and things);
whereas sentences are used to state complete thoughts. A typical English sentence has at least one noun, and
at least one verb. For example, consider the sentence. While sentences is a set of words that is complete in
itself, typically containing a subject and predicate, conveying a statement, question, exclamation, or
command, and consisting of a main clause and sometimes one or more subordinate clauses. A sentence can
be true or false.
Example of English noun: Example of English sentence:
Kate – person The capital of South Korea is Seoul. - True
Manila – Place The capital of South Korea is Busan. - False
Pencil - Thing
Mathematics
In mathematical language the version of a ‘noun’ is called expression. Thus, an expression is a name given to a
mathematical object of interest. In mathematics there is also a sentence. A mathematical sentence, just as an
English sentence, must state a complete thought. Just like an English sentence, it can be true or false.
Example of Expression:
1
5, 2+3,
2
Example of mathematical sentence:
4 + 5 = 9 - True
4 + 5 = 7 - False
